Sinahi is the Chamorro word for "new moon". Carved from giant clam shell, or hima, the crescent moon shaped pendents are an iconic symbol and commonly worn by Chamorro men, Long before the Spanish colonized Guam the ancient Chamorro people used the moon and stars. The Chamorro lunar calendar was made up of thirteen moons, or months; it was used to navigate the sea, to know what animals to hunt, and what seeds to plant.
